Startup Nutanix Leans on Dell to Reach More Data Centers

Nutanix is one of many Silicon Valley startups hoping to shake up corporate computer rooms.

But it is attracting considerable attention, with Dell the latest to take an interest. Dell Tuesday announced it would begin selling servers that come with Nutanix's software built in. Up to now, the only way to get that software was to buy hardware from Nutanix itself. Such deals are common, with the small company betting on the large company's distribution channels to reach more customers. But this one stands out, since Nutanix is proposing a pretty radical shift–offering a kind of operating system to let ordinary companies emulate the way big Web services run their data centers.
